We look back on our heritage and we look inward with the arts, but Lowestoft also looks out to the future. We are a town that does things and makes things and our "can do, will do" spirit is demonstrated every day by Lowestoft men and women. We are actively changing how the UK (and beyond!) approaches everything from how our energy is created to how our fish are managed. Our port is a vital link between the wider world and the UK.
The Port of Lowestoft is a major player in supporting the North sea wind farms and serves as a base for a huge number of local and international business that support them. Exhibits from our local maritime and energy support industries will be open to the public.
Lowestoft has unique educational training facilities and many companies have apprenticeships. As we move forward into an independent future, we will need more young people to consider careers in some surprising areas. For instance, did you know that offshore wind farms use drones to inspect the windmills? Those drones need drone operators. There will be a exhibitis and demonstrations from local companies geared to letting people looking for training know what's on offer.
CEFAS is a worldwide operation operated by DEFRA that is deeply involved with managing and sustaining the sea and will be invited to have a major role in engaging the public.
Seaside towns like Lowestoft can't ignore climate change and other environmental issues. Flood defenses, sea level rise, plastics in our oceans- these are just a few issues that come up every day. We will have accessible and engaging displays, demonstrations, and discussions about all of these issues.
